Cervical Smears

It is recommended that women have routine cervical smears every 3 years until the age of 50, and then every 5 years when the smear is normal.  You will be notified by the North East Family Health Services Agency when your smear is due.  Please telephone and make an appointment.  Routine smears are usually taken by the Practice Nurse, or occasionally by a Doctor if necessary.

You will be informed by the North East Family Health Services Agency when your result is available at the Surgery.  This usually takes between 4 and 8 weeks.  If you have any queries about your result, please telephone and speak to the Practice Nurse.
